Rules and Guidelines

  • All Marching Kingsmen will follow the Penn Student Code of Conduct.  This strictly forbids the use of alcohol, tobacco products or controlled substances.
  • All Marching Kingsmen will represent Penn High School in an exemplary manner at all times.  Students must always be aware of this representation while in uniform and while wearing band or guard jackets and insignia!
  • All Marching Kingsmen will show respect for Directors, Staff, Student Leaders, Chaperones, and Parents at all times.
  • All Marching Kingsmen will uphold their responsibility as a vital member of their section, and of the band. This means preparing your music and drill thoroughly to be a constant contributor to the band's success.

Cost   

The Marching Band Fee is $300.00.  This covers most of the cost of our additional staff, music, drill, transportation, equipment and other needs. Families with more than one participant pay a fee of $150.00 for each additional child. The $10.00 PHM transportation fee is also included. 

  • Deposit of $100.00 due on April 3rd.  Checks payable to Penn Bands
  • Payment of $100.00 due on June 26th.
  • Balance due on August 7th.
     

Additional expenses could include

  • Band Shoes:  $30.00 if purchased, or may be rented for $10.00 per year.
  • Guard Shoes:  estimated $30.00
  • Guard Bodysuit/etc:  estimated $35.00
  • Percussion equipment/stick & mallet fee is $30.00 per year.
  • Band Trip (next trip is tentatively scheduled for 2010-11)
     

Fund Raisers (Student Accounts) may be used to cover or defray costs.

Financial Need – Please contact Glenn Northern if you would like to work out a payment option for the marching band fee, or if you think that your child may need some opportunities to raise money for their fees. We never want a family’s financial situation to keep someone from participating.
Financial Need Scholarships – In years past, we have had many band families who felt they were fortunate enough to donate a little additional money. This money has always been used to help a deserving student who otherwise may not have been able to participate. If you would like to sponsor a student, please send these donations to: Penn Bands, in care of Glenn Northern at Penn High School.
 

Uniforms

  • Uniforms will be fit it July.  
  • All uniforms will remain at school.  Each student is responsible for handling the uniform properly after each event and also for returning the hat & plume in the hatbox.
  • Helmets will be worn with the hair up.  
    Black marching shoes will be worn with the band uniform.  Shoes will be ordered for you.  The cost is $30.00 a pair.  Black socks must be worn.
  • Uniforms will not be altered without the permission of Band Parent Uniform Chairman or the Band Director.
  • Students should wear gym shorts and a black (or dark) T-shirt under the uniform.

Jewelry is not permitted if it can be seen.
 

Travel

 

  • The Marching Kingsmen Band makes a major trip every other year.  These trips are optional.  Students are responsible for paying their own way.  Students in need of financial assistance will have numerous opportunities to raise money for the trip.  Students will be given detailed information at each step of planning.  Confidential medical forms will be required.
  • The Band travels to several competitions each fall.  Information will be made available no later than one week prior to the trip with a full itinerary.
  • Students should avoid taking items of value on trips.  Any audio equipment must be played through earphones only.  

    PARENTS may check our return time by calling Glenn Northern’s voice mailbox.  For each trip a message is on the answering machine approximately two hours before the planned return time to verify our specific time of return:  259-7961 ext. 2685.
